Note:
This is the small grid version of the GroundGrid. It is recommended by the manufacturer that this size is used when stabilizing driveways and walkways due to the smaller cell design which increases stability and reduces gravel / soil migration. The Large Grid (DPGG-50110) is not to be used on any ground stabilization application. GroundGrid must be used with 3/4" angular stone. Do not use pea gravel as an infill.

Fabric for Beneath GroundGrid

If the ground below the installation area is soft it is recommended that an approved landscape fabric is placed below the GroundGrid. This will prevent weed growth and gravel from being pushed down into the ground below the grid. SRW SB3 landscape fabric meets DuPont's recommended specifications.

AN INNOVATIVE GEOTEXTILE GRID FOR USE IN GROUND STABILIZATION

DuPont GroundGrid ground stabilization system is a geotextile grid used for ground stabilization in landscape and construction projects. Simply expand the three-dimensional honeycomb structure, place it on your project surface and fill with gravel, soil, sand or other mineral infill to create a strong and stable surface.

GroundGrid uses DuPont science to create an uncommonly strong and stable surface for your job site. As with many ground stabilization systems, a three dimensional honeycomb structure holds mineral infill to create a solid ground surface. The difference is that DuPont GroundGrid is made from high-performance fabric engineered by the experts at DuPont. So it's lightweight but tough enough to work hard and last for decades in any conditions, while being uniquely flexible and truly easy to use. From a performance standpoint, it allows water to flow in a horizontal direction through the structure to avoid water damming around the pathway.

DuPont GroundGrid™ is a high-performance geocell designed to stabilize gravel, soil, or sand in driveways, walkways, and slopes. Manufactured by DeWitt Company under license from DuPont, this honeycomb-style grid reinforces the ground while maintaining permeability—creating a durable, eco-friendly surface that resists erosion, rutting, and washouts.

What Is DuPont GroundGrid™?

GroundGrid™ is a three-dimensional confinement system made from geotextile fabric strips welded together to form flexible cells. When expanded and filled with aggregate, it locks material in place, preventing lateral movement and ensuring an even, compacted surface. The grid distributes weight evenly, providing strong load support for vehicles while allowing rainwater to infiltrate naturally.

Installation Overview

  1. Prepare the base: Excavate and compact the subgrade; apply a weed barrier or drainage fabric if desired.
  2. Expand the grid: Pull the GroundGrid™ panels open and anchor the corners with stakes or pins.
  3. Secure & fill: Connect panels edge-to-edge, fill cells with aggregate, and compact for a smooth finish.
  4. Finish surface: Add a thin top layer of gravel; ensure cell tops are flush for even load distribution.

Best Practices

Tip: For vehicle use, always select angular aggregate—such as 3/4" crushed stone—because rounded pea gravel can shift within the cells. Avoid fine materials that may clog permeability.

Project: A rural homeowner faced ongoing rutting and washout on a 300-ft gravel driveway that sloped toward a drainage ditch.

The product worked just as advertised. Seems very stable. It is easy to install, so long as the instructions are read. Finding 3/4" angular stone clean was a small hick-up as most places I called only had 3/4" zero. Other than that cutting the material was easy with scissors, but just had to double check I was cutting a straight line. All and all, quick and easy.

This product made a very stable base for our new gravel patio. It was easy to install and the kids were able to help out (always a plus!).  Walking on it is great, as our feet don't create little holes with each step.
