What is the NDS EZ-Roll™ Gravel Paver?

The EZ-Roll™ is a rolled gravel paver system made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic. It unrolls like a mat over a prepared compacted base, and you fill the hexagonal honeycomb cells with gravel. The result is a firm, stable, natural-looking surface that handles real vehicle traffic — without the runoff problems of concrete or asphalt.

Each roll covers 577 square feet (3.87' × 149') and is available in four colors: black, tan, brick red, and gray.

What can the EZ-Roll™ be used for?

How strong is it?

Extremely strong. The EZ-Roll™ has a compressive strength of 57,888 psf with empty cells — more than double the H-20 load specification on its own. When filled with gravel and installed over an 8"+ engineered subbase, strength exceeds 500,000 psf.

It carries an H-20 load rating in saturated conditions, meaning it's approved for emergency vehicles and fire trucks. It has been used and accepted nationwide for emergency vehicle access roads, equipment yards, and heavy service roads.

What are the site requirements before installation?

• Complete any nearby sprinkler systems or hardscape elements before installing the pavers
• Reclaimed or back-filled areas must be compacted and tested before the base is installed
• Soil percolation rate should be at least 0.25 inches of water per hour
• The water table must be at least 3 feet below the base course
• Surrounding hardscape should sit 1–2 inches higher than the paver surface to keep gravel contained
• Not suitable for slopes exceeding 10% grade for vehicle traffic (erosion control use only above 10%)
• Not recommended for tracked or tread-driven vehicles

What kind of base does it need?

A properly compacted road base is the foundation of the entire system — performance depends on it. A 4" to 8" engineered road base is required depending on your expected traffic load:

Always follow your local engineer's specifications and local code. The base should be compacted to a minimum of 95% Modified Proctor.

What gravel do I fill it with?

Fill with clean, washed gravel that is uniform in size between 3/16" and 3/8".

How does installation work?

No heavy equipment or special tools required:

Order approximately 5% more product than your measured square footage to account for curves and trimming.

What are the slope limitations?

• Up to 6% grade — suitable for emergency access lanes and heavy vehicle use
• Up to 10% grade — suitable for light vehicular traffic; staking required
• Over 10% grade — erosion control only; not recommended for vehicle traffic

Does water drain through it?

Yes — the EZ-Roll™ is fully permeable. The bottom surface has over 80% open area, allowing water to drain naturally through the gravel and into the ground below.

This significantly reduces stormwater runoff compared to concrete or asphalt, promotes groundwater recharge, and can virtually eliminate surface runoff on sandy soils during average rainstorms (under 6" in 24 hours).

Is it ADA compliant?

Yes. The EZ-Roll™ meets the maneuverability performance requirements of ASTM F 1951-09b — the ADA standard for firm and stable surfaces on accessible routes. It's suitable for public areas, parks, and any project requiring accessible pathways. Loose gravel alone can never meet this standard.

Is it environmentally friendly?

Very much so. The EZ-Roll™ is made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic (50% post-consumer, 50% pre-consumer) and is itself 100% recyclable at end of life.

How do I maintain it?

• Top off gravel as needed if it settles over time
• Do not aerate the surface
• If using a snow plow, use skid shoes or raise the blade at least 2" above the paver surface
• Do not use thatching or scalping equipment over the paver
